ActLingual’s Committee for Citizenship

ActLingual’s Committee for Citizenship (ACC) runs Individualized Tutoring for English and Citizenship (ITEC), a program that pairs MIT students to tutor immigrants 1-on-1 in English and citizenship exam skills. Our mission is to provide individualized support that is flexible and meets students where they are. Three of our students have passed the citizenship exam!First started in Fall of 2020, ACC set out to improve access to citizenship and English resources for immigrants in the Greater Boston Area. In fall of 2021, ACC ran the first semester of ITEC with 19 student-tutor pairings. In spring of 2022, ITEC now has 30 student-tutor pairings! In addition to individual tutoring sessions, ITEC has weekly Office Hours for members of the tutor and student communities to meet each other and practice English conversation around fun topics such as food, cartoons, and more! In the future, ITEC looks to expand to more communities and provide increased resources.
